Our Story · A Feature in Five Parts
The man who
never let go
of the leaf.

Benny — Founder & Master Blender
Chapter I
Humble beginnings.
New Jersey · The first decade
It started with a suitcase of leaf and a promise. A folding table in New Jersey, a first blend that finally worked, and a shop owner who said yes — then reordered within the week.
The years that followed were spent learning the Dominican valleys, one harvest at a time. The growers became family. And when a season ran short, Benny refused to buy filler off the open market — the boxes simply waited.
The standard was set early and never moved: if Benny wouldn’t smoke it on a Sunday, it didn’t ship on a Monday.
Chapter II — Three Decades, Marked
Year 1
A folding table in New Jersey
First rolls, first customers, first lessons in patience.
Year 8
The Dominican partnership
A handshake with growers that still holds today.
Year 15
Queen Makeda is born
The flagship blend, named for the Queen of Sheba.
Year 24
All fifty states
National distribution without a single machine-rolled cigar.
Today
Same table, longer legs
A family legacy, still checked box by box.

Chapter III — Community
“The neighborhood gave us our start. The least we can do is keep showing up for it.”
Scholarships for the kids of the block that bought the first boxes. Local sponsorships that never made the label. And the yearly lounge night where the first box is always on the house.
What we hold to
Craft over volume
Fewer boxes, checked twice, shipped once.
Family before brand
The name on the band is the name at the table.
The grower’s handshake
Thirty years with the same valleys, on a word.
Time is the blend
The aging room sets the calendar, not the market.
